Dear Butterfield Families,
I am so pleased to report to you that I have been named principal of Butterfield. The past school year, I served on an interim basis, and the year before that I served as the assistant principal. I am fortunate to be able to stay at Butterfield with the students, families, and staff I have come to know and respect.
The 2017-2018 school year is turning out to be an exciting one because the District has fully transitioned to a new elementary reading program aligned to academic standards in Language Arts. Both Wonders and Maravillas are designed to move students through core classroom engagement, enriched language development, and rich, authentic content instruction. Wonders will focus on engaging instructional plans, themes, skills, access to rich texts, and rigorous English Language Arts instruction. Maravillas is an entirely equitable Spanish Language Arts Program designed to support students as they become bilingual, bi-literate, and bicultural. Maravillas mirrors the core Wonders program.
The incredible Butterfield faculty and staff are all committed to the success of every student. Through trust, collaboration, and high expectations, Butterfield is dedicated to ensuring that every student is learning and successful on exceeding personal academic and social goals. It is important to us that your child’s experience is positive and fruitful this 2017-2018 school year.
The partnership between home and school is essential to the success of all students. Family and parental involvement are encouraged from volunteering in the classroom, participating and attending school functions, joining parent groups like Booster Club, ELAC, AAPAC, and School Site Council; just to list a few. Your time and commitment, at Butterfield, enrich our school and student experiences. Please review our first-day packet and find the best way to support Butterfield! Also, parents are always welcomed to visit our Parent Resource Center in the front office which is open Monday through Friday from 8 am to 3 pm.
Our goal is to maintain a safe school climate the maximizes student learning and develop excellent students. Butterfield is a PBIS school. PBIS is a systematic approach to educate all children by developing school-wide behavior support systems. School safety also extends to procedures before and after school. We encourage all families to practice safe pedestrian practices and procedures when entering or leaving the school site. Only cross the street at safe and designated crosswalks on each side of the main road. For family and student safety, always follow conductor and pedestrian safety rules. Develop a location site where your child(ren) can meet you safely. The first week of school is heavily congested so, we encourage families to walk to alleviate the traffic jam.
Further information on our school website, marquee, ParentLink phone message system, and flyers are forms of communication for our families.
Once again, I am honored to continue to serve Butterfield’s school community as your principal. I look forward to building pleasant memories with all of you!
