Meet Your Counselors

Who are School Counselors? 

  • A School Counselor is a licensed/certified professional holding a minimum of a Master's Degree and a Pupil Personnel Services Credential.

What is their role?

  • The role of a Professional School Counselor is to design and deliver school counseling programs that improve student outcomes. 
  • They lead, advocate and collaborate to promote equity and access for all students by connecting their school counseling program to the school’s academic mission and school improvement plan.
  • They uphold the ethical and professional standards of the American School Counseling Association (ACSA)  and promote the development of the school counseling program based on the following areas of the ASCA National Model: define, deliver, manage and assess.

What services are offered?

School counselors create school counseling programs based on three sets of standards that define the profession. These standards help school counselors develop, implement and assess their school counseling program to improve student outcomes.

Ms. Dao's Message (TK-4th Grades)

Dear Esteemed Students and Butterfield Bobcat Families,

 I want to welcome you all back to a new school year full of exciting events happening at Butterfield Language Academy.  This year’s school program has a new change and improvement in that we now have 2 school counselors.  I will be supporting our transition kindergarten to 4th graders.  Our other school counselor, Ms. Castro will be supporting our 5th to 8th graders. If you would like for your child to be seen by me, please fill out the "School Counseling Request".  I am here to help and support your child’s well being and academic success.

Ms. Castro's Message (5th-8th Grades)

Hello Butterfield Bobcats, my name is Ms. Claudia Castro. I am the middle school counselor at Butterfield Language Academy. I look forward to meeting our wonderful scholars and serving as a support system. This year I will be providing counseling services to our 5th-8th grade students. Our school counseling program promotes and enhances student academic, career and social/emotional outcomes as outlined in the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) Nation Model for school counseling programs. A few counseling services we offer include individual counseling, group counseling, classroom guidance lessons, consultation with teachers, parents/guardians, etc. and referrals to outside agencies and community services.
