The Moreno Valley Unified School District is proud to be one of a growing number of school districts in the state of California that offers the Dual Language Immersion (DLI) Program to its diverse student population.
Eligibility
-
Students entering TK, K or 1st Grade*, regardless of language background.
-
Students transferring from other districts who were previously enrolled in a DLI program.
- Students arriving from Spanish-speaking countries may be considered at other grade levels based on an assessment.

What is the Dual Language Immersion Program?
Dual Language Immersion is a research-proven additive program where all activities and curriculum are delivered in two languages. Students receive instruction aligned with the California State Standards in both Spanish and English through the 90/10 model beginning in Transitional Kindergarten. Parents that choose to enroll their child in the Dual Language Immersion program commit to no less than a period of six years. Research shows that students who commit to the full program through 12th grade reap the greatest benefits of the DLI program.
The DLI program is designed to help participating students to develop proficiency and academic competency in English and Spanish. The ultimate goal of this program is for students to become bilingual, bi-literate, and multicultural.
As part of our vision to empower students to become future ready and positively impact the world, the District offers the Dual Language Immersion program at six elementary schools, two middle schools, our Language Academy, and two high schools.
Elementary Schools
In TK and Kindergarten, 90% of instruction is delivered in Spanish while only 10% of instruction is delivered in English. At each subsequent grade level, Spanish instruction will decrease by 10% and English instruction will increase by 10% until students reach fourth grade. Beginning in fourth grade, instruction is delivered at 50% in English and at 50% in Spanish.

Middle and High School
At the secondary level, the instructional model may decrease to approximately 30% in Spanish and 70% in English in an effort to accommodate student interests and abilities.
